Anxiety About School

My son is in 5th grade. He has ADHD, and has a difficult time doing his homework. He is very slow and doesn't always finish on time. It was stressing him and us out. I finally had to say to my son that if he can't get it finished, we support him. I know how hard he works, he just runs out of time. I'm OK with him not finishing because I know he is doing his best. He is a bright kid who gets good grades otherwise. We are OK with that.

My son has ADHD also. He is now 27 years old. When he was in the later years of grade school the teachers allowed him to hand in the work he completed in a set amount of time. Once that decision was made he did much better grade wise

Bluebrotherhood, do you have

Bluebrotherhood, do you have a 504 plan or IEP in place for your son? Usually homework is addressed in a school plan. I know we have a 504 for our son and it addressed homework. We are allowed to write out his homework, and if he is falling behind, he is allowed to do odds or evens so that he's getting work done, but not all of it.

Hi Ladies!  Yes, Fiona, my son has a 504 plan. His teacher is really good about giving him extra time and stuff like that, but sometimes he just can't complete his homework before it is bedtime. I just don't want to stress him out.
